Valentino exhibit, Rome

Original Valentino sketch from 1966-67.

Sketches, originally uploaded by luvmycapn.
One day on our vacation in Rome, we were walking along trying to find the Piazza de Popolo and we stumbled upon the Ara Pacis Museum Valentino exhibit. I scored big time by this accidental discovery. I knew about the exhibit but wasn’t sure how I would convince [...]

Rome: coffee and a little Vatican

Wednesday, October 3.
This was our first full day in Rome. We woke up in the eternal city and first things first we had a cappuccino from the little bar across from the Chiesa Nuova which is a beautiful church by the way
before heading off to our first ever visit to the Vatican. We had [...]

Back from a fabulous trip.

We got back yesterday evening from a wonderful vacation in Italy. We visited Rome, Amalfi and Venice and had such a great time. There is so much to tell and so many pictures to post.

Venice was by far our favorite place. Seeing the Palantine Hill, Forum and Colosseum in Rome was definitely a highlight. Amalfi [...]

First Day in Rome, view from Castle St Angelo of St Peters

After a very long flight from Austin to Rome we finally made it to this beautiful place. This photo was taken the first night here from the castel towards the Vatican. Amazing sunsets here. We have walked all over this place and have seen so much. It’s very crowded. Much more than it was our [...]

Only 16 days to go!

I can hardly believe our trip to Italy is so near. This photo I found on the Slow Travel web site was taken by B&J from Nebraska on my birthday, Nov. 21, 2006. It seems almost poetic that this beautiful photo I stumbled upon was taken on my birthday last year. She calls it the [...]

Otranto occupies the site of the ancient Hydrus or Hydruntum, a town of Greek origin, which, in the wars of Pyrrhus and of Hannibal sided against Rome. With a history of control by the Romans, the Byzantines, the Neopolitans and [...]

Where’s the travel in my obsession?

I realize I haven’t posted much on travel lately. There are days when I see my blog’s lack of travel related posts and I start to feel guilty as if I’ve let somebody down. I feel like an imposter I guess I shouldn’t put much thought into all this as it is just a [...]

Doesn’t this look sinful? Yum, yum, yum. Now to just figure out where Largo Argentina is..maybe it’s near the hotel we’ll be staying at [...]

Whoops!

So, I screwed up. You know that little trip to Italy I’ve been planning since oh…MAY?!? Well, I’ve been researching air fare like a mad woman which is probably how I screwed up in the first place and the past couple of days there have been some incredibly priced tickets to get us to Italy.
Since [...]
